First Day School Program - All About AFSC
Sun May 7, 11:15 am, First Day School Program: Joe Elder and Todd Kummer from the Meeting's AFSC committee will meet with our combined First Day School classes to talk about the American Friends Service Committee, which is celebrating its centennial this year. As I understand it we'll explore why the organization was started and how that related to Quaker testimonies. We'll also explain the Meeting's connection with AFSC and review what the organization is doing now. We plan to leave ample time to answer questions and have a conversation about the work of AFSC today.
Younger elementary children will separate after 10 minutes to work on art related to AFSC, possibly creating 100th birthday cards to post in the Meetinghouse or send to the regional or national office.
Some of our young people will be familiar with AFSC, some will not, but all could benefit from learning more about this organization that strives to translate Quaker beliefs in peace and justice into action in the world.
