Conflict as a Gift from God
The theme for this issue inspired a greater number of submissions than usual for FGConnections, and so we have expanded to a double issue to accommodate all the excitement and interest. Inside, Friends explore the different ways conflict can occur as a transformative power in our lives: in disagreements over theology, in corporate conflict and conflict resolution techniques, in personal relationships, and in situations of individual inner turmoil. Friends also explore the consequences of avoided conflict and forgiveness as a radical act in the resolution of conflict.
Also in this issue we honor Barbara Hirshkowitz, former FGC Publications Manager and editor of FGConnections, who died on March 2nd at her home in Philadelphia after a struggle with cancer. Barbara moved to Philadelphia to work at New Society Publishers before coming to FGC in 1998. She was a founding member of Books Through Bars, a collective that sends books to men and women in prison. A Buddhist who moved among Quakers with grace and candor, she was also a gardener and a powerful mentor to young people.
She is deeply missed.
