Servant Leadership at Work
Michael Gibson, FGC’s Religious Education Coordinator led worship and
spiritual discernment sessions at the annual meeting of the Education and
Leadership Ministries Commission of the National Council of Churches, January
9-12, 2004. The following is his summary of the sessions.
“I was very honored to be asked, and very blessed in the doing. It was a good meeting with some rich worship and worship sharing. I used the Lord's Prayer as a focus, using one phrase each day to highlight and ground various aspects of spiritual discernment. Folks were very appreciative of the learning opportunities and the modeling. Several said that as staff they would be taking back to the committees or agencies they support or head some of the methods we used, such as experiential worship sharing. Over the next year, the commission will explore whether it is rightly ordered to move from a Robert's Rules model to a spiritual discernment model of decision-making.”

As Ann Riggs, who also attended the NCC meeting, said “What a gift we have all received from the person and presence of this man!” We are pleased to be able to share a small part of Michael’s gift with you.
