Quaker Studies Group: The Essential Elias Hicks
Beginning Wednesday, 17 March from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, we will be reading aloud together from The Essential Elias Hicks.
Elias Hicks was a central figure in the Great Separation which occurred among American Friends in the 1820s. From this separation between "Hicksite" Friends and "Orthodox" Friends grew the various branches of modern day Friends, which have evolved into Friends General Conference (FGC), Friends Unite Meeting (FUM), Conservative Friends and Evangelical Friends International (EFI). Hicks was attacked at the time by his detractors for "heretical" views. His defenders argued that his views were true to those of early Friends.
We meet via Zoom. If you are interested in joining us, please leave a message and we will contact you.
