Couple Enrichment Approaches a Half Century

Have you ever been to an FGC Summer Gathering where there hasn’t been a Couple Enrichment workshop? The answer should be “no”, unless you’ve been attending the Gathering for more than 50 years!

Have you ever been to an FGC Summer Gathering where there hasn’t been a Couple Enrichment workshop?

The answer should be “no”, unless you’ve been attending the Gathering for more than 50 years!

The Friends General Conference (FGC) Gathering has been hosting Couple Enrichment workshops for almost half a century, ever since Quakers David and Vera Mace began teaching the art of Couple Dialogue in the late 1960s as a way to deepen intimacy and enrich relationships.

This year, we are delighted to have Sharon and Tom Baring coming to Grinnell, IA from Fairbanks, AK to lead this year’s Gathering Couples Enrichment workshop (#47).  We hope you and your beloved will consider signing up for this workshop. If you are already signed up for a different workshop, watch out for our interest group session, where you can learn more about what happens in a workshop and what it takes to bring an event to your community.

We are also pleased to announce that at our Friends Couple Enrichment (FCE) business meeting in January 2019, we agreed to make a donation to FGC to help fund the Adult Young Friends (AYF) Pre-Gathering Retreat on anti-racism work. Although the focus of FCE remains on enriching committed relationships, we are excited to be able to support the AYF group in their work. The common thread is the need for deep, compassionate listening.

If you don’t make it to the FGC Gathering in Iowa, you can still stay abreast of upcoming Friends Couple Enrichment events by checking our website. The website also has a collection of exercises that couples can do on their own or together to nurture their relationships, as well as tips for bringing an event to your community, and guidelines for facilitating ongoing Couple Growth Groups.
