Book Musings: Authors Online!

Send Date: July 7th, 2020

Dear Friend,

QuakerBooks had its first virtual author events this past week as part of the FGC Gathering. They were wonderful!  Though online, they proved to be engaging and thought-provoking, with many participants asking if they could be enjoyed again later. That’s the plan!

I’ll keep you posted as to viewable recordings and upcoming live online author events in the not-to-distant future.  Look for the updates in Book Musings and on the QuakerBooks website.

Book Musings: Time Travel

Send Date: August 4th, 2020

Dear Friend,

There is one place where I time travel: the beach. As I walk the wet sand, the  ocean air goes deep into my lungs and permeates my being. I could be four years old holding my mother’s hand as we scan for shells, or a new mom carrying my daughter. I see my father (who hated sand despite having worked at Jones Beach) vigilantly watching the youngsters as they play in the waves. A moment later my sister challenges me to a race to the boardwalk for Cracker Jack.

I haven’t been able to make my usual time travel trips to the shore this year. I’m losing myself in books instead, and while I don’t inhale the pages I do enjoy the journeys. I hope you can do the same.

Book Musings: Autumn Activity Approaches

Send date: August 18th, 2020

Dear Friend,

Very soon, many of us will resume meetings for buisiness, adult education, and First Day School. The last of those three may pose the greatest challenge in this time of social distancing and virtual gatherings. We renew our suggestion of using Faith & Play Stories™ with special instructions for teaching via the internet. The Faith & Play Stories™ creators also offer great support for those new to their materials.

Another excellent option, truly appealing to any age, is Finding the Light in You, now significantly discounted through the generosity of its author, Marjorie McKelvey Isaacs, who is a member of the FGC Publications and Distribution Committee.

For adult education, consider a book discussion on Valarie Kaur’s See No Stranger, currently discounted to half price.
